FPL auto-subs: understanding your live league table
A player on your bench can earn points without those points counting towards your team total. The distinction matters when comparing rivals during a gameweek.
Turn auto-subs on or off
The Auto-subs control in the league view lets you compare the table with eligible automatic substitutions and captain fallback included, or without that adjustment. The same perspective is applied across the league.
Why has a substitute not entered yet?
Our live view does not assume a player will miss the rest of the gameweek merely because they have not appeared yet. Players who may still play remain pending. This is particularly important when a club has more than one fixture in a gameweek.
Bench points versus counting points
Inspect the bench to see what its players have earned. A bench score is not automatically an addition to your total: the selected chip, substitution eligibility, bench order and formation constraints matter. Do not add every bench score to the displayed GW total.
Example: points on the bench are not always added
Imagine your first substitute has 6 points. If every starting player appears, those 6 points normally stay on the bench unless an active chip changes the scoring. If a starter finishes the gameweek without an appearance, an eligible replacement may count. Bench order and a valid formation both matter; the highest-scoring substitute is not automatically selected.
Captain fallback
The chosen captain and the effective captain can differ when a captain does not play. The player filters distinguish those roles so that you can compare the original choice with the player whose captaincy actually counts.
Example: captain and vice-captain
If your captain does not play during the gameweek and your vice-captain does, captaincy can pass to the vice-captain. If the captain still has another fixture to play, the case remains pending. A brief appearance is still an appearance: a disappointing score does not itself trigger a substitution or captain change.
Not a prediction of appearances
This toggle applies scoring eligibility to the information available. It does not predict who will be selected, who will come off the bench in a real match, or how many points anyone will score next. Treat pending cases as unresolved until the relevant data is available.
